In January 1950 a new officer rank of Aluf Mishne was introduced. This Rank was placed between Sgan-Aluf and Aluf. Thus Aluf became a firs general officer's rank.
The insignia of general's ranks were changed too. First, it was simply planed to add another grape leaf (falafel in military slang) for the highest rank (Rav-Aluf). However, eventually was made a decision to introduce a totally new type of insignia.
