At the beginning of 1998 the insignia of NCOs were totally changed and "moved" from collar to shoulder boards, similar to the officers' insignia. In 1999 the rank of Turai Rishon was finally abolished. The special grades for academic officers were discontinued, and all of them have received the rank of Katzin Miktzoi Akademai.
