During the 1990s some new ranks appeared, some ranks discontinued, some ranks changed their status, and some insignia were replaced. Since 1990 there were no promotions to the rank of Turai Rishon, and the rank itself was preserved solely to the reservists. In 1993 a new rank of Chief NCO was established. It became the highest rank for the NCOs. In 1994 the rank of Memale Mekom Katzin was discontinued, as well as the special rank and insignia for the military Rabbi. The band of Katzin Miktzoi Akademai was replaced by a "normal" insignia. At that year a new rank of Katzin Akademai Bakhir was introduced as higher grade for the academic officers. Since then the "junior" academic officers were corresponded to Segen (lieutenant), while Katzin Akademai Bakhir was corresponded to Seren (captain). In 1996 the special title and insignia for dentists were abolished and all the Officers-Dentists received the grade of Officer of Medicine. In 1997 a red background was added to the insignia of Katzin Miktzoi Akademai and Katzin Akademai Bakhir.
